Coach Ryan took over New River Diving in January 2021, bringing with him over eight years of coaching experience. Coach Ryan graduated from Virginia Tech in 2015 with a Bachelor of Architecture and a Minor in Industrial Design. After graduating Ryan pursued a career in Architecture with Gresham Smith & Partners(Fort Lauderdale, FL) while also representing Team USA and continuing to train with Fort Lauderdale Diving Team for 2016 Olympic Trials. After three years in the professional world Ryan realized his true passion was coaching and transitioned to become a full time diving coach for Carolina Diving Academy(Huntersville, NC) in 2018.

 

Head Diving Coach

Benjamin Herboth brings more than 10 years of experience developing divers at the club, summer league, high school, and collegiate levels. A former collegiate and nationally competitive diver himself, Herboth is passionate about helping athletes reach their individual potential—from beginners learning the fundamentals to elite divers competing at the NCAA, national, and international levels. He has also coached Olympic and high-level international divers throughout his career.

Herboth has founded and coached multiple club programs, including Foxcroft East Diving Club in Charlotte, N.C., Dive Mason in Fairfax, Va., and Queen City Dive Club in Northern Kentucky. He also previously served as Head Coach of Roadrunner Dive Club in Bakersfield, Calif.

His collegiate coaching experience includes CSU Bakersfield, Towson University, George Mason University, and the University of Cincinnati. His athletes have earned NCAA Zone Championship qualifications, conference medals, school records, and Academic All-America honors, while divers under his direction at Cincinnati and CSU Bakersfield have reset school records that had stood for decades.

Herboth competed collegiately at the University of North Carolina, where he was the 2004 Nike Cup 3-meter champion, the highest-scoring UNC swimmer or diver at the 2005 ACC Championships, and the recipient of UNC’s Most Outstanding Diver award for the 2004-05 season. A Charlotte native, he was also a five-time USA Diving National Qualifier, two-time Junior National medalist, and three-time high school All-American at East Mecklenburg High School
